Ongoing efforts by the management of the Nigerian Prison Service received a dynamic boost on Tuesday when a prison reform-driven Non-Governmental organisation; Habeeb Okunola Foundation made a donation of three sewing machines to the Lagos Division of the Nigerian Prison Service.
The NGO represented by Solomon Adetokunbo; who led a delegation to the Lagos office of the Nigerian Prison Service in the early hours of the day were well received by the Controller; Mr Tunde Ladipo.
Solomon said the gesture was in line with the foundation’s long-term commitment towards ensuring the prison truly serves as a reformation and correctional facility for the prison inmates who serve time there, so that upon admittance back to the society they can have a skill that can be used for self-sustenance. “Habeeb Okunola Foundation, therefore, seeks through various skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programmes, to give a sense of value and provide options of viability to the inmates, the ultimate goal is to prepare them for a life of economic productivity and self-worth after serving their jail terms”.
While receiving the machine the Controller of the Lagos Prison Tunde Ladipo lauded the gesture and admonished well-meaning profit and non profit organisation in the country to take a cue from Habeeb Okunola Foundation, and support government effort in reforming the Prison so as to bring about a comprehensive prison reforms that adds value both to the innate and society at large.
